Ried/Milan. At the Xylexpo Trade Fair which has just finished in Milan, the Ried special machine producer Wintersteiger presented the thinnest stellite-tipped saw currently available, with a cut size of just 0.7 mm. These saws are used in the Wintersteiger thin-cutting frame saw "DSG Sonic" for creating high quality laminates (sawn veneers) for parquet floors, doors, pencil board, multi-layer boards, windows, furniture, musical instruments and much more. Wintersteiger opened a completely new saw production facility in Arnstadt/Germany in 2006. "Saws produced and developed by ourselves in our saw competence centre are a crucial factor for the success of thin-cutting machines," says Franz Haas, Head of the Woodtech Division at Wintersteiger.

Another highlight was introduced to the specialist audience with the "DSB Twinhead" thin-cutting band saw. With a feed speed of up to 60 m/min, performance of up to 12,000 m2 is reached in the single-shift operation, with minimum kerf starting from 1.0 mm. The machine offers fast adjustment of the block dimensions and lamella thickness. High flexibility is achieved with a modular twinhead arrangement of 2 to 6 saws and with an easy integration into automated production plants.

„Our decades of expertise in the cutting of high quality lamellas and sawn veneers have also allowed us to mature into a specialist in upstream and downstream machining processes," explains Haas about the extension of the range. With the recently created WOODTECH Systems department, Wintersteiger offer individual capacity solutions. From a single machine to a complete system as well as customer-oriented engineering, expansion, modernization or optimization of existing systems. "We returned home with not just a number of orders but also with very, very many inquiries," is the positive message Haas draws from the trade fair.
